The fast market rule is a rule that was established in United Kingdom Forex and financial Markets, It is a rule that should be followed by Forex Brokers and other dealers. This rule actually permits Brokers that are market makers to trade outside quoted ranges, when an exchange determines that market movements are so sharp because of Volatility and that quotes cannot be kept current. The main importance or function of the fast market rule is that it helps to maintain an orderly market during a time of chaos (very high Volatility). Under the rule, market makers must turn off their computerized trading systems, called black boxes. This is mainly important if we are trading with Financial Institutions in the United Kingdom.

Fast Market Rule: It is a rule in the United Kingdom whereby market makers are permitted to trade outside of the quoted ranges because of a sharp market movement which always makes it possible to keep the quotes at current. The market is excessively rapid and in the fast market to execute the orders efficiently this rule was created and its very much beneficial for market makers, especially for the high volume trading the rapid market becomes chaotic and there it helps to trade well.

      It was implemented in 2005.

      Advantages to Market Makers

      • keep the market trading when it became a fast market.
      • It was created to replace the circuit breaker.
      • It force traders to trade without electronic assistance and allowing them to trade outside the quoted range

Fast market rule, can be said as a rule that binds market participants in the stock exchange to take action in short time in deciding to choose the option to buy or sell shares. This is why the stock market has limited time compared to the forex market. Usually market participants in the stock market use short amount of time to be able to decide on the shares they want to choose because of time constraints. The strictness of these rules is also used to provide protection for market participants, even though they have limited time in the market but market participants use large funds.

The fast market rule only applies in the United Kingdom and the essence of this rule is to prevent some people with money to manipulate the price movements because of volatility, when the price of an instrument has already moved too fast within a short time, there is need for the invocation of the fast market rule to ensure that nobody buys or sells the commodity prices shares under consideration. This is mainly used for the sake of ensuring equity in price so that no instruments is overvalued unnecessarily, if an instrument is overvalued, it can lead to a false impression that the company is doing well when in essence what has happened is just am artificial rise that is most not sustainable.

A fast market rule is known to be exhibited only in the United Kingdom territory, it is used for control purposes when the regulatory authorities see that the price of any pair is going beyond the acceptable threshold and it is happening very fast, the volatility can make people lose money in the end which is a term that is called pump and dump when this happens with cryptocurrency. This rule must be used with discretion because sometimes, the shares can climb and automatically make a correction without the intervention of the the authorities.

In that case, there will not be need to activate the fast market rule policy, there are may circumstances where this might not work though because of the number of people trading and the money that has been invested.

The†fast market rule†is a†rule†in the United Kingdom that permits†market makers to trade outside quoted ranges, when an exchange determines that†market†movements are so sharp that quotes cannot be kept current. ... Under the†rule, market makers must turn off their computerized trading systems, called black boxes.
Fast markets are rare and are triggered by highly unusual circumstances. For example, the London Stock Exchange declared a fast market on July 7, 2005, after the city experienced a terrorist attack. Share prices were falling dramatically and trading was exceptionally heavy.
The fast market rule was created to replace the circuit breaker, which was harming the market by halting trading. A circuit breaker is a mechanism that allows an exchange to temporarily halt trading when prices decline sharply to prevent panic selling.
A fast market is one with heavy trading and rapidly changing prices in some but not necessarily all of the securities listed on an exchange or market.
In this volatile environment, which might be triggered by events such as an initial public offering (IPO) that attracts an unusually high level of attention or an unexpectedly negative earnings report, the rush of business may substantially delay execution times.

What is Fast Market Rule? This rule originated from the United Kingdom long time ago as a result of market volatility experienced by one or more commodities in the stock exchange market .This rule allows trading outside quoted range because of sharp market movement [ volatility] in order to maintain current price . Under this condition ,it is difficult to execute orders efficiently but this rule allows market execution protecting the interest of participants against Market makers which could take advantage of market volatility to manipulate the price .This rule is put in place to ensure equity and see to it that a particular commodity is not overvalued or undervalued as a result of market volatility .

A fast market rule was created to keep the market trading when it becomes volatile. Formally, a circuit breaker was in use which automatically halts trading. The fast market rule was created to replace the circuit breaker. The fast market rule allows market makers to trade outside quoted ranges since market movements are so sharp that keeping quotes current are not possible. This rule commonly used in the United Kingdom to maintain an orderly market during times of chaos.
Using the rule, the market makers must turn off their computerized trading systems referred to as black boxes. They do not have to quote share prices based on the London Stock Exchange's screen prices while the fast market is in effect, but they are still required to make firm quotes.
