MetaTrader 4, or MT4, is an electronic trading platform prominent among online retail foreign exchange speculators. MetaQuotes Software created it in 2005, and it was released. Foreign exchange brokers who sell the app to their customers are granted a license to use it. A client and server component are included in the program. The broker manages the server portion, while customers use the client software to view live streaming prices and charts, place orders, and manage their accounts.
MetaQuotes Software, the platform's creator, had already launched several versions of the MetaTrader platform since 2002. In 2005, MetaTrader 4 was announced, which was a vastly improved version. Due to the success of the MT4 platform among traders and the large number of third-party scripts and advisors, a number of brokerages added it as an optional alternative to their current trading software between 2007 and 2010.
MetaTrader 5 entered into public beta testing in Oct. 2009, with a substantially re-coded version. In September 2010, InstaForex released the first MT5 live account. MQL4 was entirely updated in 2013 and 2014, ultimately achieving MQL5 status. MQL4 and MQL5 use the same MetaEditor starting with build 600.Despite the fact that MT5 was released in 2009, MetaTrader 4 was still the most successful Forex trading platform in the world at the time, according to a study conducted in September 2019.
The importance of charts in trading
Even though trading can be a very lucrative way to invest, determining which currency pairs to invest in and when to do so takes some research. Despite the fact that there are a number of methods for estimating the value of this currency, the majority of investment decisions are based on chart comparisons. These various graphs will show you how a particular pair has performed in the past. Typically, these graphs will show a series of prices over a period of time. In most situations, you'll be able to see a currency's high, low, and average values in comparison to others. It is much easier to make trades based on the stock's possible future movement as expected by these charts if you have this experience.
Why MT4 charts not moving?
It's possible that your charts need to be updated. Close your charts and go to the ‘marketwatch' panel if you see a message saying ‘waiting for change' when you first log in. Right-click and choose ‘show all,' then create a new map. You may also add market names to a map by dragging and dropping them.
Check at the Market Watch
See if any of the prices in the "Market Watch" window are changing. If the whole board is frozen, you may not have correctly signed into your trading account. Please login to your account again by going to "File" _"Login to an Account" in this situation.
How to update chart?
When an MT4 trading chart stops updating, the first thing to do is check the link status! To use it, check the bottom right corner of your MT4 forex platform for an error message like "Connection failed."
If this is the case, then:
• Either your internet connection is disabled, or you've entered incorrect IDs or selected the wrong server.
If your internet connection is functional, you must reconnect as follows:
• Go to the MT4 forex platform's top left and choose "File."
• Go to "Login to Trade Account" and choose "Login to Trade Account."
• Enter your account number or login credentials.
• Enter your trader's (not investor's) password.
• Link to the appropriate node (you can find it in the e-mail you received after opening your account)
Other options exist if the issue is not caused by the relation. You can quickly update the MT4 map once you've signed into your MetaTrader 4 demo account.
To update the map, simply do the following:
• Right-click the map and choose "Refresh."
This immediately refreshes the MT4 map. If the issue continues, there is a last option!
Open the "Market Watch" window
To do so, you'll need to do the following:
• Open the "Market Watch" window
• Right click mouse anywhere else in the window.
• Choose "Show Everything" from the drop-down menu (all available instruments on the Admiral Markets account are displayed)
• Right click anywhere in the window.
• Choose "Hide Everything" from the drop-down menu.
The asset values are refreshed at the end of the manipulation. Feel free to practice any of these tricks on a virtual trading account.
Understanding MT4's main windows
Toolbars are a collection of icons that appear on the screen.
The Toolbars window, which has numerous icons that are shortcuts that allow you to do different things, is located at the top.
Graphs: The Charts section is the most important section of the screen, where you can see the latest charts.
Market Observation: The Market Watch window, placed on the top left side of your screen, lists all the markets open for trading and displays real-time bid and ask rates.
Navigator: You'll see the Navigator window at the bottom of your screen, where you can see all of your accounts. Also there are multiple metrics, expert advisors, and scripts to be found.

The Terminal window, which has many tabs, is located at the very bottom of the page. Trade, Account, History, News, Alerts, Mailbox, and Journal are all features available on the platform. The Trade section shows your pending and open transactions, while the Account History tab displays all of your account activity and allows users to create trading reports.
Customized market watch
The Market Watch window, as you might be aware, appears on the upper left side of your screen and lists all of the markets that are open for trading, along with real-time bid and ask rates. If you're not sure if all of the available markets are shown, right-click on this window and choose "show all." You'll find a Tick Chart tab at the bottom of this window. To see the current price action of the currency pair you picked in the Market Watch window, go to this tab and click it.
From the toolbar, select the Add New Chart icon. If not, go to the File menu in the upper left corner of your screen and choose New Chart from the drop-down menu. Right-click on the currency pair chart you want to see in the Market Watch window, choose the Chart window, and then click the New Chart icon.
Customize the appearance of charts
Right-click the map after it has been opened and choose Properties from the drop-down menu. Colors is the first tab, which allows you to choose a color scheme. For a more professional appearance, make the background white. The Popular tab is located immediately adjacent to the Colors tab. You can customize these features as well as the chart type you want to see: candlestick or line chart.
You can save your choices as a template once you've made your selections. Right-click on the map itself, select Template, and then Save Template, or click the Template icon in the toolbar and select Save Template. You may expand or reduce the size of the image. The timeline can be set to anything from a minute to a month.
Multiple screens: How to arrange?
It's really simple to create a new chart using the same template as your existing one. Pick the market you want to see in the Market Watch window. Drag it over the Map row, which contains your open chart, with a left click. The new map, which represents the selected sector, will appear in the same Chart window and will have the same template properties as the previous chart. Simply left-click and move several charts to the desired position to arrange them. You can minimize, close, or adjust the size of each chart in the same way you would in your browser.
How to set language

How to customize toolbar
You can reorganize the tools in the Toolbar by dragging and dropping them to the desired location. Only a few tools are available in the Toolbar at first. You can expand on these based on the ones you use the most. You can delete tools from the Toolbar if you don't use them very much. Customize the Toolbar by right-clicking on it.
When this window appears, press Insert and pick the tools you want from the Toolbar. You can also remove tools from the Toolbar by selecting them and clicking Remove. Although the platform is fairly intuitive, you should continue to practice so that you become familiar with the various options available on this powerful platform.
